Jose Mourinho Advocates for Real Madrid to Pursue €140 Million Midfielder

Real Madrid has been active in the transfer market recently, securing four new players even before the official opening of the transfer window. Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries were brought in prior to Florentino Perez's presidential election victory, followed by the acquisitions of Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella in the past few days.

However, the club is not finished yet, as they aim to strengthen their squad after two disappointing seasons. A new midfielder is at the top of their wishlist, with new manager Jose Mourinho having a significant influence on the selection of new signings for the first time in several years.

Mourinho appears particularly interested in signing Mateus Fernandes, who has caught his attention. Nevertheless, Real Madrid is hesitant to meet West Ham United's €93 million asking price for him, prompting them to consider other options.

According to reports from MD, Real Madrid is eyeing Enzo Fernandez, who currently plays alongside Cucurella. The Argentine midfielder was a target for the club before his transfer to Chelsea in 2023, and with speculation surrounding his potential exit from the Premier League side this summer, Madrid is eager to finally secure his services.

However, Chelsea's reluctance to sell is a significant hurdle. If they do decide to part ways with Fernandez, they are likely to demand a staggering €140 million, a fee that may be too steep for Real Madrid executives to approve. Complicating matters further, Manchester City has also expressed interest in Fernandez, adding another layer of difficulty to Madrid's pursuit as the midfielder participates in the 2026 World Cup with Argentina.
