Marlins Surge Past Pirates with Late Inning Rally, Securing Sixth Consecutive Win

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Miami Marlins delivered a powerful performance on Friday night, scoring four runs in the seventh inning to secure an 8-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, marking their sixth win in a row. Owen Caissie played a pivotal role, hitting a two-run double that highlighted the team’s impressive late-inning surge.

Starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara (6-4) earned his third win of June, delivering a solid eight innings where he allowed three runs on five hits while striking out seven and issuing one walk. The game was tied 2-2 entering the seventh when the Marlins took control. Xavier Edwards contributed with a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from Heriberto Hernandez, before Caissie’s double off the center field wall widened the gap.

In the eighth inning, Liam Hicks added to the Marlins' lead with a two-run home run against Antoine Kelly, who was making his major league debut. Hicks finished the game with an impressive 3-for-4 performance, including a double and three runs scored. On the other side, the Pirates struggled, with Endy Rodriguez hitting a home run and a double, while Brandon Lowe added a late RBI for Pittsburgh.

The Pirates initially took the lead in the third inning with Rodriguez's leadoff double, which was followed by Jared Triolo's single. The Marlins responded in the fifth, taking a 2-1 lead before Rodriguez's homer tied the game again. Starter Braxon Ashcraft of the Pirates allowed two runs over five innings of work.

This victory keeps the Marlins in contention as they continue to build momentum in the season.
