Marshawn Lynch Takes on New Role as World Cup Photographer
NFL legend Marshawn Lynch has ventured into a new realm, capturing images as a photographer during the USMNT's World Cup group stage match against Australia at Lumen Field on Friday. Dressed in a green photographer's bib and equipped with a camera, the former Seattle Seahawks star found himself on the sidelines rather than in the spotlight on the field.
Lynch was on hand to document the United States' 2-0 victory over Australia, a match that solidified the team's advancement to the Round of 32 on their home turf. The scoring was kicked off in the 11th minute when Australia's Cameron Burgess inadvertently scored an own goal, followed shortly by a second goal from Alex Freeman just before halftime.
This win marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time since 1930 that the US secured back-to-back victories in a World Cup tournament. The team is poised to clinch the group top spot if Turkey does not defeat Paraguay in their upcoming match.
Lynch is no stranger to the role of a sports photographer, having previously covered major events, including a Seahawks game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Seattle’s Super Bowl 60 triumph, the Canelo-Crawford fight, and the Daytona 500.
He isn't alone in this trend; other sports icons have also turned to photography recently. Simone Biles was spotted taking pictures at a Chicago Bears game last December, while Caitlin Clark had credentials for an Indiana Pacers matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers in March.
