Maryland Secures Commitment from Safety Chuck Roberts After Flip from UNC

Chuck Roberts, a three-star safety from Bradenton, Florida's IMG Academy, has officially changed his commitment from North Carolina to Maryland, as reported by Pete Nakos from Rivals. Previously committed to the Tar Heels since December 29, the 6-foot, 180-pound athlete is now focused on joining the Terrapins in College Park, marking a significant success for head coach Mike Locksley.

Ranked as the No. 580 overall prospect and the No. 52 safety in the 2027 recruiting class by the Rivals Industry Ranking, Roberts is also positioned as the No. 49 recruit in California. His decision comes after an intensive recruitment process that saw him gain multiple offers following his commitment to UNC.

Maryland had been pursuing Roberts since October and intensified their efforts during his official visit this weekend, leading to his decision to flip. In his junior season, Roberts showcased his skills by recording 45 total tackles, according to MaxPreps, contributing to one of the most prestigious high school football programs in the country.

Having transitioned from Bishop Alemany High School in California to IMG Academy before his sophomore year, Roberts is set to be a standout player in his senior season. With this commitment, he becomes the tenth addition to Maryland's 2027 recruiting class.
