McGonigle and Dingler Seek Fan Support in All-Star Voting Race
HOUSTON – The Detroit Tigers are calling on their fans for support as shortstop Kevin McGonigle and catcher Dillon Dingler find themselves in need of votes for the upcoming 2026 MLB All-Star Game. With the event scheduled for July 14 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, McGonigle currently sits in third place among American League shortstops, while Dingler ranks fourth among catchers.
Of the two, Dingler appears to have a better opportunity to move forward in the voting process. Major League Baseball released its first update on June 15, and fans are reminded that they can cast their votes for position players on MLB.com.
The All-Star voting consists of two phases. In the initial phase, the player receiving the highest number of votes earns an automatic starting position. Additionally, the top two players at each position and the top six outfielders progress to the second round. Phase 1 concludes on June 25, followed by Phase 2, where voting totals reset and fans choose from the reduced pool of players who advanced.
Pitchers and reserves will be selected through a blend of player votes and decisions made by the commissioner's office. The complete All-Star rosters are set to be unveiled on July 4. Currently, the Tigers have only one player, Riley Greene, who is positioned to advance in the voting, as he ranks fifth among AL outfielders.
Both McGonigle and Dingler are counting on fan engagement to increase their chances of making the All-Star roster before the first round concludes.
