Michigan Coach Kyle Whittingham Enjoys Thrilling IndyCar Experience
Despite being 66 years old, Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham remains a spirited figure, known for his adventurous pursuits, which include motorcycle riding, skiing, and golf. This past Sunday, he took part in an exhilarating event that likely topped them all.
The occasion was the Detroit Grand Prix, an IndyCar race that has returned to the streets of downtown Detroit in recent years. Whittingham had the unique opportunity to experience a ride in the 'fastest seat in sports,' enjoying a thrilling lap in a race car around the circuit. Footage shared by Fox captures his sheer delight during the ride.
However, the day wasn't without its competitive banter. Graham Rahal, who finished third in the race, is known for his allegiance to Ohio State and made sure to remind Whittingham of this rivalry. "I told coach when he was at Utah, I was a massive fan," Rahal shared with WWJ 950. "But I just wanted to tell him that I can't like him anymore." He went on to praise Whittingham’s previous successes at Utah while acknowledging the tension of their teams’ rivalry.
Overall, Sunday proved to be a memorable day for Whittingham, filled with adrenaline and a touch of friendly rivalry—an experience that encapsulates the essence of leading the University of Michigan football program.
