Minor League Recap: Ralphy Velazquez hits two moonshots, Cooper Ingle homers again

Clippers improve to 23-22

Cooper Ingle, we have liftoff! The top Guardians catching prospect went 1-fo-3 with a game-tying solo home run and two walks in Sunday’s 3-2 victory to remain scorching hot.

George Valera walked three times and Juan Brito doubled.

Starting pitcher Ryan Webb was OK, allowing two runs on two hits in 4.1 innings. He struck out six, but walked five.

Tommy Mace navigated 1.2 innings of scoreless relief and Will Dion was sensational with 3.0 innings of scoreless long relief with six strikeouts and no walks to earn the win.

Akron RubberDucks 10, Chesapeake Baysox 9

RubberDucks improve to 22-17

Ralphy Velazquez my goodness! The guardians top first base prospect had himself a day, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double to help Akron overcome an 8-0 first inning deficit.

Jose Devers also had a three-hit game, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Jake Fox reached base safely three times, going 2-for-4 with a double and a walk while Jaison Chourio went 2-for-5 and Jacob Cozart also went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. Alex Mooney homered.

Starting pitcher Cam Favors had the worst performance of his career, allowing seven runs on three hits with four walks in 0.1 innings.

The comeback was made possible by Reid Johnson, who came out of the bullpen with 3.0 scoreless, no-hit innings with four strikeouts. Magnus Ellerts struck out five in 2.0 scoreless innings and Sean Matson picked up the save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Lake County Captains 7, Dayton Dragons 8

Captains fall to 18-20

Offense wasn’t the problem for Lake County on Sunday as the heart of the Captains order all had multi-hit games.

Dean Curley was terrific, going 3-for-5 with a double while Aaron Walton went 2-for-5 with a home run and a double.

Luke Hill also continued his tremendous hot streak, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and a walk.

Nolan Schubart went 2-for-5 while Esteban Gonzalez went 1-for-2 with two walks and Bennett Thompson walked twice.

Starting pitcher Jogly Garcia had a rough day, allowing six runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.

Melkin Hernandez came in for long relief, allowing two more runs on five hits in 3.2 additional innings while striking out six.

Hill City Howlers 4, Wilson Warbirds 7

Howlers fall to 20-19

It wasn’t Robert Arias’ fault that Hill City didn’t win on Sunday. He did his best, going 3-for-4 with two doubles to remain the top performing Guardians hitting prospect at Single-A.

Yelfert Castillo went 2-for-3 with a walk while Riley Nelson went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk. Catcher Ty Howard walked twice.

Starting pitcher Chase Mobley’s struggles continued. The prep prospect also failed to get out of the first inning, allowing four runs on one hit with five walks in 0.1 innings.

Zane Petty allowed two more runs in 4.2 innings of long relief on four hits, but the damage had been done.
