Mystics Secure Victory Against Sky with Strong Performance from Iriafen

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a commanding display, the Washington Mystics triumphed over the Chicago Sky with a score of 90-72 on Tuesday night. Shakira Austin led the team with 17 points, while Kiki Iriafen contributed significantly with 15 points and 11 rebounds, marking her fourth double-double of the season and the 20th of her career.

The Mystics dominated the boards, outrebounding the Sky 46-29, with Austin also pulling down eight rebounds. Michaela Onyenwere added 13 points to the tally for Washington (4-4), and bench players Angela Dugalic, Lauren Betts, and Alicia Florez Getino each chipped in with eight points.

Chicago (3-6) was without Sonia Citron, who missed her first WNBA game due to a left foot sprain. The Sky’s efforts saw Sydney Taylor score 15 points off the bench, while Skylar Diggins and Kamilla Cardoso contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively. Cardoso also recorded an impressive 13 rebounds, six blocks, and five assists, but it wasn't enough to halt the Sky's five-game losing streak.

Washington took control early, leading 47-40 at halftime after shooting 55% from the field. They further solidified their lead with a strong third quarter, outscoring Chicago 27-18 to push the score to 74-58. The Mystics capitalized on free-throw opportunities, finishing 20 of 32, while the Sky only made 16 attempts.

Looking ahead, the Sky will return home to face Connecticut on Friday, while the Mystics travel to Atlanta for their next matchup on Saturday.
