Oregon baseball looks to reverse its dicey history in the regionals
The Oregon Ducks baseball has been awarded a regional site in the upcoming NCAA tournament next week after they had a 40-16 overall record and finished as a runner-up in the Big Ten tourney after the 3-2 loss to UCLA.
While every team wants to host in the postseason, and the Ducks definitely want more games inside PK Park, that hasn't always spelled out success for Oregon. It has had a dicey history when it comes to Eugene Regionals, but the Ducks hope this season will be different.
One has to look at just last season, where Oregon suffered a major disappointment at the 2025 Eugene Regional. The Ducks lost to Utah Valley before being bounced out of the postseason by Cal Poly, falling flat in the postseason before a highly anticipated run could even get going.
Back in 2021, Oregon found itself in a winner-takes-all battle with LSU at PK Park, and unfortunately for the host Ducks, the Tigers scored three in the eighth inning to win the game 9-8. Oregon was in the same situation way back in 2013, but it was Rice that sent Oregon packing in a Game 7.
The Oregon baseball program is still in search of its first Super Regional win and a trip to Omaha for the Men's College World Series.
National seedings will be announced by the NCAA on Monday morning, as will the full 64-team bracket. We'll find out who will be coming to Eugene for the regional and which other regional site Eugene will be paired with. The Ducks aren't expected to be a national seed, and hosting a Super Regional won't happen unless there is an upset.
But as history has shown, that is entirely possible.
