Pontotoc Warriors Aim for Playoff Success with Strong Roster

PONTOTOC – The Pontotoc Warriors are gearing up for a promising playoff season, bolstered by a roster rich in returning talent. Following a 19-11 campaign last year, where they faced elimination in the second round against state runner-up Holmes County Central, the team is poised to make a significant impact this year.

“Pretty much our whole starting five is back,” said head coach Rolley Tipler, emphasizing the team’s continuity. As they focus on enhancing their bench strength, Tipler has been experimenting with a rotation of ten players during practices. “It’s been working well for us, and we’ve been having some good stuff out there,” he added.

Leading the scoring for Pontotoc last season was Omaree Scott, who averaged 15.9 points per game as a junior. He is joined by fellow returnees Dalyn Powell, who contributed 10.8 points per game, and Chayton Johnson with 10.7 points per game. The presence of these seasoned players is invaluable as the team seeks to replicate past playoff success. “The last time we did that, we made a decent run, so hopefully that happens again,” Tipler remarked.

This summer, the Warriors have been focused on building depth. “I’m loving the fact that we’ve got a lot of guys that are stepping up,” Tipler noted, highlighting the importance of every player getting ample playing time to prepare for the season. Alongside the returning starters, Kayden Carruthers, who averaged 8.7 points and 3.1 rebounds last year, expressed confidence in the team’s current state. “The team looks way better than last year. We’re moving a lot better. We’re playing with each other, and I feel like we’re looking toward a state championship,” Carruthers stated.
