Portland Fire Triumphs Over Indiana Fever, 100-84, in Home Victory
The Portland Fire secured a solid win against the Indiana Fever, defeating them 100-84 at the Moda Center on May 30. This matchup marked the second encounter between the teams this season, with Indiana having previously bested Portland 90-73 in their first meeting on May 20, a game that saw the Fever compete without star player Caitlin Clark.
Indiana's loss on the road now extends to two, following a tough defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Dream just a day prior. However, the Fire bounced back impressively, with power forward Megan Gustafson and guard Carla Leite putting on a remarkable performance, racking up a combined total of 40 points. Gustafson scored 22 points with a perfect shooting night, while Leite contributed 18 points and set a career-high with 12 assists.
In addition to Gustafson and Leite's standout efforts, small forward Emily Engstler added 16 points, and guard Sarah Ashlee Barker chipped in with 15. This victory brings the Fire's record to 6-4 in their inaugural season under new ownership, a promising return after the team had been inactive for over twenty years following an initial stint in Portland.
The atmosphere at the Moda Center was electric as fans celebrated the team’s strong performance. The Fire now look ahead to their next challenge against the Golden State Valkyries on June 2. For those interested in watching the upcoming games, fans can tune in via the Portland Fire's streaming service, Portland Fire+, or on Paramount+.
