Report: CB Taron Johnson sitting out Raiders OTA's with contract issues
Las Vegas Raiders’ cornerback Taron Johnson has not been present during voluntary workouts this offseason due to a contract issue, per the California Post's Vincent Bonsignore.
Per sources: CB Taron Johnson's absence at @Raiders voluntary offseason workouts is contract related. The $18M he's on the books for in '26 & '27 is non guaranteed. Makes sense he's looking for more security.— Vincent Bonsignore (@VinnyBonsignore) May 16, 2026
Johnson was acquired by the Raiders in a trade with the Buffalo Bills in early March. Las Vegas sent a sixth round pick to the Bills in exchange for Johnson and a seventh round pick, and the veteran’s eight year tenure in Buffalo ultimately came to an end with the move.
Johnson has yet to participate in the Raiders’ voluntary workouts this offseason. The veteran is reportedly having contract related issues that are keeping him off the field, as Johnson is looking for more security in his contract throughout the 2026 and 2027 campaigns.
The cornerback is currently on the books for a total of $18 million across the next two seasons. The $18 million is non-guaranteed, however, and Johnson appears to be looking to restructure the deal in an attempt to secure more guaranteed money.
Johnson recorded 57 total tackles, 1 TFL and 4 pass deflections across his eighth and final season in the Bills’ secondary. The veteran could emerge with a crucial role both and on off the gridiron throughout his first season with Las Vegas, as Johnson will serve as an excellent mentor for a young a reloaded Raiders’ secondary.
The Raiders would undoubtedly like to have the issue resolved prior to mandatory minicamp in June, but the veteran has yet to participate in voluntary workouts nonetheless.
