Serena Williams’ Comeback Cut Short at Queen’s Club Due to Partner's Injury
Serena Williams' much-anticipated return to competitive tennis has been abruptly halted at the Queen’s Club tournament. Her doubles partner, Victoria Mboko, sustained a knee injury after a fall during her singles match, prompting her withdrawal from the event.
The 44-year-old Williams, who recently came out of retirement after a four-year hiatus, made an impressive start on Tuesday. Teaming up with Mboko, they triumphed over the third-seeded duo of Nicole Melichar Martinez and Erin Routliffe with a score of 7-6(2), 6-2. They were set to compete against Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund in the next round.
With the unexpected turn of events, Williams will now focus on securing a wildcard spot for the upcoming tournament in Berlin.
The former world No. 1 has been a trailblazer in tennis, and her return has garnered significant attention within the sports community.
