Spokane Youth Sports Awards Celebrates Exceptional Young Athletes

The Spokane Youth Sports Awards ceremony took place on Tuesday evening at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, bringing together outstanding high school teams and individual athletes from the Spokane area. This annual event, now in its 12th year, recognizes the hard work and dedication of student-athletes, providing them a platform to celebrate their achievements.

The festivities kicked off with a glamorous red carpet entrance for finalists in various categories, earning the event the moniker "Spokane ESPYs," reminiscent of ESPN's prestigious awards show. Athletes showcased their championship rings and stylish outfits as they entered the venue, setting the tone for a night of recognition and celebration.

Awards were distributed across two categories: the "Region" awards, which honored schools from Classes 1A, 2B, and 1B, and the "Metro" awards for Classes 4A, 3A, and 2A. The Colfax boys' basketball team stood out by sweeping the Region awards, clinching the title of team of the year. The late Reece Jenkin, who coached the team for 18 years before passing away from pancreatic cancer, was posthumously named coach of the year, while his son, Adrik, took home the boys athlete of the year award. Adrik led the Bulldogs to an undefeated 27-0 season and secured the State 2B championship.

In the softball arena, Addison Jay capped her remarkable career at Mt. Spokane by leading her team to its first fastpitch state title and a third consecutive slowpitch state championship. Jay, who finished her tenure with an impressive 61 wins and 731 strikeouts, expressed pride in leaving a lasting legacy at her school, saying, "we're resilient and we don't quit." Meanwhile, Kaitlyn Waters of Northwest Christian was celebrated for her achievements as she earned her second Northeast 2B-North League MVP award and played a pivotal role in her team's historic state title run.

The night also honored numerous other athletes and coaches across various sports, with categories recognizing excellence in both region and metro divisions. The Spokane Youth Sports Awards continues to inspire the next generation of athletes in the area, highlighting their exceptional skills and commitment to their sports.
