Stephen A. Smith Criticizes Trump for Failing to Condemn Michelle Obama Insult
Stephen A. Smith recently commended Donald Trump for hosting UFC Freedom 250 at the White House, but he did not hold back in his criticism of the president for allowing an offensive comment to go unchallenged. The event, which faced scrutiny for its potential as a tool of sports propaganda, ultimately received positive reviews, although one incident overshadowed the festivities.
During his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, fighter Josh Hokit made a derogatory remark claiming, “Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?” This comment sparked outrage, leading Smith to express his dismay on the latest episode of SiriusXM's Straight Shooter. “It was a spectacular event. It was ruined by the one a**hole who was fighting in the octagon who said Michelle Obama was a man,” he lamented.
Smith went on to describe the comment as an "incredibly disparaging remark about one of the greatest first ladies, if not the greatest lady we have seen," labeling it "disgusting" and "inexcusable." He noted that while Dana White, the UFC president, swiftly condemned Hokit's statement, Trump and his administration remained silent.
“This should have immediately been denounced by the president,” Smith asserted, emphasizing the need for Trump to take a firmer stance against such hate speech. He criticized Trump for not addressing the situation directly, suggesting that the president's failure to act gives the impression of endorsement. “They should have escorted his ass out of there,” Smith added, calling for Trump to make a statement of his own rather than leaving it to White.
Trump's past responses to similar controversies raise questions about his approach to denouncing offensive remarks. Earlier this year, he faced backlash for sharing a racist video involving the Obamas and has similarly avoided addressing Hokit's transphobic comments.
