Texas Claims Second Consecutive NCAA Softball Title with 4-1 Win Over Texas Tech

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — In a thrilling showdown at the Women's College World Series, the University of Texas triumphed over Texas Tech with a score of 4-1, securing their second consecutive NCAA softball championship. Teagan Kavan was instrumental in the victory, striking out five batters in the final two innings, while Citlaly Gutierrez delivered a solid performance on the mound.

Despite trailing 1-0 after four innings, Texas turned the game around in the fifth inning. A critical throwing error by Texas Tech shortstop Hailey Toney allowed two unearned runs to cross the plate, giving Texas a 2-1 advantage. Kayden Henry then added to the lead with a home run in the seventh, marking the end of NiJaree Canady's collegiate career on the mound for the Red Raiders. Leighann Goode contributed with a single that brought in the final run of the game.

Gutierrez (11-3) pitched 4 1/3 innings, yielding just one run on three hits, while Kavan secured her fifth save of the season. Canady (29-7) was on the losing end, allowing four runs—two of which were earned—across eight hits and three walks. Texas Tech initially took the lead in the third inning with an RBI single from Lauren Allred.

This victory marks a significant achievement for Texas, guided by Coach Mike White, as they celebrate the school's second national title in his eighth season. Under the leadership of second-year coach Gerry Glasgo, Texas Tech made its second appearance at the WCWS, having previously faced Texas in the opening game of the series.
