Texas Linebacker Rome Ewell Chooses Houston Over Michigan State

A linebacker who had been on Michigan State's radar has made his college decision. Rome Ewell, hailing from Springtown, Texas, declared his commitment to the University of Houston on Monday. This announcement follows his official visit to the campus over the weekend.

Ewell is recognized as a three-star recruit, earning a recruiting score of 86 according to 247Sports. In the 2027 class, he is ranked as the 91st linebacker and stands at 1,028 among all prospects nationally, as per the 247Sports composite rankings.

Michigan State had recently shown interest in Ewell, scheduling an official visit for this month. However, his decision to commit to Houston appears to have eliminated the possibility of that visit taking place.

In a tweet celebrating his commitment, Ewell expressed his excitement with the message, “IM HOME!!!!! #committed #C365,” tagging several coaches and the Houston football program.

This development marks a significant recruitment win for Houston as they continue to bolster their roster in the Big 12.
