UNC Baseball Advances to Super Regionals After Impressive Win Over East Carolina

North Carolina's baseball team celebrated a significant victory on Sunday, defeating East Carolina 9-3 and securing a spot in the super regionals. First baseman Erik Paulsen, who earned the title of Most Outstanding Player for the Chapel Hill Regional, and relief pitcher Jackson Rose shared their thoughts with the media following the game. This marks UNC's third consecutive year reaching the super regionals, where they will compete against the winner of the matchup between No. 12 seed Texas A&M and USC.

Reflecting on their performance, Paulsen noted the challenges they faced, saying, “We knew it was the region of death for everyone else. We knew we were going to go out there and play our game of baseball, and when we play our best, nobody can beat us.” Rose agreed, adding, “He’s right.”

Paulsen also opened up about the emotional weight of the day, particularly after hitting a crucial double in the eighth inning. “It really hit me… just looking around Boshamer Stadium, seeing how packed it was, and wishing my dad was in the stands,” he expressed. He highlighted the support of his mother, stating, “I was really happy to see her smile and I can’t wait to see her when I get out of here.”

Jackson Rose discussed his approach as he entered the game from the bullpen, stating, “I didn’t know what the plan was. I just went out there and pitched every pitch I could, and got out of every inning I could.” He also acknowledged the influence of the veteran players on the team, remarking, “Being around the older guys… makes me that much better of a person.”

Rose shared insights about his friendship with teammate Caden Glauber, saying, “Me and Caden are buddies. We come to the games together, and we’re living together right now in the dorm.” Their bond has helped them navigate the pressures of the season, contributing to their overall success as a team.
