Vázquez’s Header Secures 1-0 Victory for Mexico Over Australia in World Cup Preparations

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Johan Vázquez's first-half header propelled Mexico to a 1-0 win against Australia on Saturday evening during a crucial World Cup warm-up match. The defender found the net in the 27th minute, converting a corner kick from Alexis Vega that sailed past goalkeeper Mathew Ryan and nestled into the right side of the goal.

This victory marked Mexico's seventh consecutive match without defeat this year, with their last loss dating back to November 18, when they fell 2-1 to Paraguay in a friendly in San Antonio. The team is gearing up for their World Cup opener against South Africa on June 11 at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

Following their match against South Africa, Mexico will face South Korea on June 18 in Guadalajara, and will conclude the group stage against Czechia on June 24. Before the tournament kicks off, they will have one final friendly on Thursday night in Toluca against Serbia.

On the other hand, Australia will begin their World Cup journey against Turkey on June 13 in Vancouver, British Columbia, before taking on the United States in Seattle on June 19, and finishing the group stage against Paraguay on June 25 in Santa Clara, California. The Socceroos will play their last friendly on June 6 against Switzerland at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
