Washington Huskies Host High-Profile 2028 Linebacker Family During Official Visit

This past weekend, the Washington Huskies extended an official visit to Chaz Gray, a highly-rated four-star edge rusher from St. Joseph Regional High School in New Jersey. The visit served as a crucial opportunity for Washington to make an early connection with one of the standout talents in the 2028 recruiting class.

Joining Chaz on this visit was his younger brother, Tahj Gray, who is equally impressive as a five-star linebacker. Currently ranked as the No. 24 overall prospect and the top linebacker in the 2028 class, Tahj stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 225 pounds. He received an offer from the Huskies’ coaching staff led by Jedd Fisch in January and is also in contention for scholarships from prominent programs including Florida, Indiana, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Texas.

Tahj expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “I am Blessed to receive an Offer from The University of Washington!!!🟣⚪️” His tweet highlights the growing interest surrounding his recruitment.

Linebackers coach Brian Odom has built a solid track record in recruiting since he joined the team before the 2025 season, but securing a commitment from the younger Gray is expected to be a unique challenge. However, the early visit could provide Washington an advantage as they aim to enhance their roster with more size and versatility in their defensive lineup.

Tahj’s film showcases his skills, demonstrating the attributes Odom seeks in a linebacker, including remarkable speed, explosive agility, and the ability to maneuver past offensive tackles to pressure quarterbacks. During the visit, defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi and outside linebackers coach Aaron Van Horn focused on persuading Chaz to join the defensive unit, while also likely highlighting the benefits of sibling dynamics within the program. Currently, the Huskies boast three pairs of brothers on their roster, illustrating a commitment to family connections in their recruiting strategy.
