Amanda Anisimova Faces Setbacks During Early Exit at Roland Garros

Amanda Anisimova, a prominent contender in women's tennis, experienced an early exit at this year's Roland Garros, succumbing to local player Diane Parry in a tightly contested third-round match. The final score was 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(10-3). Prior to this match, Anisimova had shown promise, defeating Tiantsoa Sarah Rakotomanga Rajaonah 6-3, 6-1, and advancing past Julia Grabher due to a walkover while leading 6-0.

Known for being one of the best players yet to capture a Grand Slam title, Anisimova will now have to redirect her focus toward Wimbledon for her next opportunity. Following her defeat, she opened up about the unexpected challenges she faced during the match.

In her post-match comments, Anisimova shared her struggles, stating, “I thought from the beginning, it was really tough for me because it was really hot, and I’m not feeling my best physically. I didn’t train yesterday, so I was dealing with something, so yeah, for me, it was really hard out there.” She further expressed disappointment, acknowledging her performance deteriorated as the match progressed, leading to numerous mistakes. “I feel like it was just getting worse and worse for me through the match. A lot of mistakes,” she added.

Additionally, Anisimova noted physical issues that hindered her performance, including blisters on her hand which made it difficult to hold her racket. “Just a really unfortunate day,” she remarked.

Prior to the tournament, Anisimova had not played on clay since withdrawing from the Italian Open due to a wrist injury. Despite her early exit, she provided a positive update on her condition, saying, “You know, I mean, apart from this [illness], not bad, actually. I’m okay physically.” The 24-year-old reflected on her performance, expressing a desire to improve for her next competition and emphasizing that her wrist felt relatively good after several matches.
