Brandon Bussi Takes the Net for Hurricanes in Game 4 Against Golden Knights
The mystery surrounding the Carolina Hurricanes' goaltending situation has been resolved. Brandon Bussi will serve as the starting goalie in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, where the Hurricanes face off against the Vegas Golden Knights. Reports from T-Mobile Arena confirm that Frederik Andersen will not be on the ice, as he has been designated as a scratch for this crucial matchup.
Andersen did not participate in Monday's practice, a decision that coach Rod Brind'Amour attributed to a maintenance day. Despite speculation, Brind'Amour refrained from disclosing his starting goalie after Monday's session or during Tuesday's pregame press conference, and there was no morning skate prior to the game.
Throughout the postseason, Andersen has been the primary goaltender but was replaced after two periods in Game 3, during which the Hurricanes were down 4-0. Bussi entered the game and showcased his skills by saving 18 of the 19 shots he faced, including a penalty shot from Mitch Marner, but the Hurricanes ultimately lost 5-4 in double overtime.
This will be Bussi's first start since mid-April and marks his initial appearance in the playoffs after having achieved 31 wins during the regular season. Notably, Bussi is a right-handed catcher, in contrast to Andersen, who catches left.
Golden Knights coach John Tortorella addressed the situation, stating, “We don't care who's playing, what hand, what feet, we're just going to play.”
