Dunk Takes Early Lead at Wisconsin Women's Open as Stricker Family Pursues
The Wisconsin Women's Open, celebrating its 30th edition, kicked off at SentryWorld in Stevens Point, a premier public golf venue in the state. The first round on June 15 saw only one golfer break par, with Hannah Dunk from Janesville carding a 1-under 71 on the 6,046-yard layout. This performance placed her one stroke ahead of Payton Haugen from Elm Grove.
Dunk, representing North Dakota State University, showcased her skills with five birdies but also faced challenges, recording four bogeys throughout her round. Haugen, on the other hand, matched her with three birdies and three bogeys, finishing the day at even par.
Professional golfer Bobbi Stricker, along with Julia Imai, is positioned two strokes behind Dunk at 1-over par. Stricker had previously tied for 37th at the Texas Women's Open in late May. Imai, who competes for UW-Stout, matched Dunk's birdie count with five during the round.
In fifth place, McKenna Nelson from Beaver Dam sits at 2-over par, while a group of players including Izzi Stricker from Madison, Norah Roberts from Racine, Emma Cunningham from Green Bay, Lola Appleby from Mequon, Rebecca Klongland from Stoughton, and professional Mackenzie Hahn from Spring Grove are four strokes back at 3-over par.
The competition continues with 18 holes scheduled for June 16, after which the field will be narrowed to the lowest 24 scores and ties. The final round will take place on June 17, concluding this prestigious event.
