Green Bay Packers: It’s Time to Hop on the Jordan Morgan Hype Train

Hall of Fame offensive tackle Joe Thomas recently took a visit to hang out with the Green Bay Packers at practice.

The big news, initially, was that he spent some time with tight end Tucker Kraft, who could very well go from great to elite if he picked up some pointers on run-blocking from the six-time All-Pro.

It's even more intriguing, though, that Thomas spent some time with Green Bay's offensive linemen — naturally so.

Specifically, he spent time coaching and mentoring left tackle Jordan Morgan, who was the Packers' No. 25 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Packers have slow-played Morgan's introduction as a full-time left tackle, which is something they're known to do with young players at any position.

He was a backup in his rookie season while getting reps at both guard spots. Guard isn't his natural position, but the Packers love to practice positional versatility on the offensive line.

Last season, Morgan lost the starting left tackle battle to Rasheed Walker, but he played a big role at other positions during the season due to injury. He was utilized at both guard spots and then at right tackle later in the season, with Zach Tom dealing with injury.

Morgan played well at tackle, perhaps not surprisingly, in starts in Week 16 and Week 17. That's what made the Packers decision to let Walker walk in free agency easy, and this offseason, they've completely let Morgan ascend to the throne at the position.

So how is he looking?

"He's a great athlete. He's got exceptional footwork. He's powerful," said Thomas of Morgan while talking on Wilde and Tausch earlier this week.

The Hall of Fame tackle said that he watched tape with Morgan and gave him some pointers. In general, though, it was a great review of the Packers' left tackle.

"Overall, I really was impressed with how he moved. The factitiousness with which he approached his craft. Everything I saw on the field was just impressive with where he placed his hands," Thomas said.

It's worth remembering that these weren't live drills. Morgan was simply practicing against a bag. Thomas knows what even the most basic of drills are supposed to look like at a high level, though, and he praised the former Arizona Wildcat for his footwork, technique and speed.

That's great news for Packers fans. Even better, the long-time Cleveland Brown came away impressed with Green Bay's offensive line as a whole.

Due to injuries, players playing out of their natural position and some strategic shuffling, Green Bay's offensive line was far from a strength last season. Thomas seems to believe it will be the compete opposite in 2026.

He thinks the unit of Morgan, left guard Aaron Banks, center Sean Rhyan, right guard Anthony Belton and Tom is going to be good in 2026. Some of that, as well, is running back Josh Jacobs getting even more comfortable in head coach Matt LaFleur's outside zone running scheme.

"It seems like Josh Jacobs is starting to understand how to run behind these guys with the outside zone," Thomas explained. "The outside zone is going to be something they're going to be featuring with Josh, and he's going to be pretty comfortable running behind that line this year."

All aboard the hype express. It's leaving the station after that interview.
