With the 2026-27 basketball season approaching, Kentucky Basketball seemed poised to finalize its roster, having just one scholarship available. The focus was largely on Serbian talent Nikola Kusturica, a promising 17-year-old small forward currently playing for FC Barcelona.
On Tuesday, optimism grew for Wildcats fans when 247 Sports recruiting expert Travis Branham shared a crystal ball prediction suggesting that Kusturica would choose Kentucky. However, the situation took a turn just a day later.
Branham retracted his prediction, indicating that Kusturica is still weighing his options between staying with FC Barcelona for another year or making the leap to college basketball this coming season. Despite the uncertainty, Branham believes Kusturica is leaning towards joining college basketball this year.
This development means Kentucky is still in contention for Kusturica, but their status as the frontrunner has diminished. Other programs, including Gonzaga, UCLA, and Michigan, are now competing for his commitment. For Kentucky supporters, the wait continues, as the recruitment landscape has shifted into a more challenging arena.
