Leeds United and Hull City Target €4m Ligue 2 Star Anto Sekongo
Leeds United and Hull City have turned their attention to Anto Sekongo, an attacking player from USL Dunkerque, as they strengthen their squads ahead of the new season. The Tigers, newly promoted to the Premier League, are keen on building a competitive team under manager Sergej Jakirović. This interest was first highlighted by Africa Foot and later reported by Sport Witness.
The 21-year-old Malian has showcased his versatility this season, capable of playing in central and attacking midfield, as well as on the right flank. Since joining Dunkerque on a free transfer in July 2024, Sekongo has made a notable impact with nine goals and six assists in 34 appearances, amassing 2,533 minutes on the pitch.
However, Leeds and Hull are not alone in their pursuit; several clubs, including Lille, Toulouse, Lorient, Rennes, and Saint-Etienne, are also monitoring Sekongo's situation. Notably, Samsunspor, which shares ownership with Dunkerque, adds further complexity to the transfer landscape. Sekongo's contract runs through 2028, and his current market value is estimated at €4m, a substantial profit for Dunkerque given his free transfer.
For Leeds United, who are navigating financial constraints dictated by Squad Cost Ratio regulations, Sekongo represents a potential bargain with significant upside. Manager Daniel Farke has made it clear that securing an attacking midfielder is a key priority, alongside finding a striker and a left wing-back. While Sekongo's statistics demonstrate his talent, the jump from Ligue 2 to the Premier League is significant, and Farke may prefer a more proven option who can make an immediate impact.
In light of this, while it makes sense for Leeds to keep an eye on Sekongo, they may be wise to prioritize acquiring a seasoned player first before revisiting the possibility of signing the promising midfielder from Dunkerque.
