Meet the Mets

The Mets committed three errors and Eduardo Rodriguez had the best start of his career that started 11 years ago, which is to say that they lost to the Diamondbacks again.

Though technically a winning road trip, the Mets head back to New York with almost as many questions for themselves as they did leaving.

Good news: Jorge Polanco’s wrist is fine! Bad news: Jorge Polanco is dealing with Achilles bursitis that has been bugging him all season.

No longer starting games, David Peterson is seeing improvement in himself during his last outing from the bullpen.

At some point on Sunday, Kodai Senga threw a bullpen session.

In a pair of demotions, the Mets activated Joey Gerber from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Syracuse while outrighting Eric Wagaman to the same team.

Around the National League East

Christopher Morel’s first run batted in as a Marlin put Miami ahead of the Nationals on their way to a 5-2 Sunday afternoon victory.

Kyle Schwarber homered twice to take a share of the league lead and Cristopher Sanchez pitched like Cristopher Sanchez as the Phillies moved into a three-way tie for second place in the NL East with a 6-0 win over the Rockies.

At the top of the division, the Braves beat around Justin Wrobleski to a line that looks straight out of 1998 as they finished their road trip with a 7-2 triumph over the Dodgers.

Around Major League Baseball

There is no better day of the year to collect a bunch of stories about baseball moms than Mother’s Day, the official day of mothers.

Tarik Skubal allegedly could have a quicker return to the big leagues than usual following the removal of loose bodies in his elbow due to a procedure that Scott Boras described as “a Skubal scope.

For the second time in two series this season, the Yankees faced a team above .500 and were swept, this time by the Milwaukee Brewers.

Though he didn’t come away with a victory in that game, Carlos Rodon made his return to the Yankees big league roster and had a nice night on the mound for his efforts.

Knowing that he didn’t want his jaw broken for the second time in less than a month, Orioles manager Craig Albernaz donned the catcher’s gear to keep his bones nice and intact.

Nick Castellanos hit a game-tying home run for the Padres while down to his last strike and became the first person using a Fernando Tatis Jr. bat to homer this season. Don’t tell him that, though.

At some point today, the Dodgers will reactivate Mookie Betts following a successful rehab assignment with wonderfully odd uniforms.

This Date in Mets History

On this date in 1972, Tom Seaver won his 100th big league game and Willie Mays returned to New York.
