Mick Schumacher picked up a $50,000 bonus after being named Rookie of the Year in his debut Indy 500 appearance.

The former Formula 1 driver finished 18th at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, ending the race on the lead lap and as the highest-placed rookie in the 2026 field.

Schumacher’s honour also boosted his total race earnings to $218,800 following his first start in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Mick Schumacher named Indy 500 Rookie of the Year

Schumacher earned the Rookie of the Year award after outpacing the other first-year drivers in the 2026 Indianapolis 500.

The German completed the full race distance and stayed on the lead lap at the chequered flag, despite the chaotic nature of the event.

His 18th-place finish was enough to secure the rookie title and the accompanying $50,000 bonus.

According to the official purse breakdown, Schumacher’s total payout from the race was $218,800.

The 2026 Indy 500 also featured the largest purse in race history, with the total payout surpassing $30 million for the first time.

Schumacher completes dramatic Indy 500 debut

Schumacher’s debut came during one of the most dramatic Indy 500 races ever, with Felix Rosenqvist edging David Malukas by just 0.0233 seconds in the closest finish on record.

The event also produced a record purse of $30,906,400 as Indianapolis Motor Speedway continued its run of record-breaking payouts.

For Schumacher, though, the main takeaway from his debut weekend was completing the race and leaving Indianapolis with Rookie of the Year honours.

The award marked an important milestone early in Schumacher’s IndyCar career after switching from Formula 1 to American open-wheel racing.

While the race winner took home over $4 million, Schumacher’s rookie bonus still made for a successful financial and sporting debut at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
