Mike Vrabel Addresses Stefon Diggs' Potential Return to Patriots
After a standout season in which he led the New England Patriots with 85 receptions for 1,013 yards, Stefon Diggs found himself unexpectedly released at the onset of the NFL's new league year in March. Now an unrestricted free agent at 32 years old, speculation has mounted regarding a possible reunion with the Patriots on a more affordable one-year deal.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was queried about the likelihood of re-signing Diggs. He responded, “I mean, I think we are probably at the number that we would need right now. I would not say anything is off the table. We would want to add anybody that could help us. I am not going to give a percentage on it, but I think we are happy with where we are at right now with the numbers and the people in the receiver room.”
Vrabel further acknowledged Diggs' contributions, stating, “I appreciate Stefon as a person, as a player and what he did for us last year. I value that. He helped us win football games, helped us get to where we got. But right now I don’t think that that is something that I think we are exploring. But I would never say no.”
Since parting ways with Diggs, the Patriots have bolstered their receiving corps by signing former Green Bay Packers player Romeo Doubs and trading for A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles. Brown is anticipated to significantly enhance the development of quarterback Drake Maye, who finished as the runner-up for NFL MVP last season while leading the Patriots to a 14-3 record and a Super Bowl appearance, ultimately falling to the Seattle Seahawks.
As Diggs continues to search for a new team, he recently hinted at a possible interest in joining the Washington Commanders.
