Mitchell Hosts Youth Soccer Tournament Featuring 17 Teams
MITCHELL — Over the weekend, the Palace City Cup youth soccer tournament took place at the Pepsi-Cola Soccer Complex, hosting a total of 17 teams. The format of the tournament consisted of various pool matches, with no final bracket play to determine an overall champion.
In the under-nine boys category, the Mitchell Soccer Association (MSA) entered two teams. The MSA Black squad achieved a record of 2-1 for the weekend, narrowly outscoring their rivals with a total of 6-5 over three matches. Conversely, the other MSA team finished with a 0-2 record, having scored nine goals. The top spot in this division went to a team from Brandon, BASA, which completed the tournament undefeated at 3-0 and scored a remarkable 14 goals while conceding only five.
For the under-10 boys, the SoDak Spurs from Brookings emerged as the standout team, finishing their pool play with a perfect 3-0 record and an impressive 11-0 goal differential. Meanwhile, the Timbers from MSA concluded their participation with a record of 1-2.
In the U11/U12 boys division, only two teams competed, with the MSA Impact claiming victory in both matches against BASA from Brandon, dominating with a 14-2 scoreline. The U11/U12 girls division also featured just two teams, where the Fire and Ice team from MSA managed to split their games with BASA, securing a 3-2 win in their second match on Saturday.
Lastly, in the U13/U14 boys division, an Aftershock team from Tea showcased their skills with a staggering 36-2 scoring record in pool play, ultimately defeating BASA 7-2 in the championship match held on Sunday.
