Notre Dame Titans Claim Second Straight Regional Title with 3-2 Victory Over Conotton Valley

ATHENS — Embracing the notion that "pressure is a privilege," the Notre Dame Titans softball team showcased their resilience once again, clinching the OHSAA Division VII, Region 26 Championship with a 3-2 win against Conotton Valley. This victory marks their second consecutive regional title and secures their spot in the upcoming state tournament at Akron's Firestone Stadium.

The Titans faced an early challenge, falling behind 1-0 after a two-out error in the first inning. However, they quickly turned the tide. The initial three batters reached base, culminating in an RBI sacrifice fly from Lyndsey Schaefer that tied the game. Ava Rush then delivered a pivotal two-out double, driving in two runs and giving Notre Dame a lead they would not relinquish.

Rush, who not only excels as a pitcher but also serves as a motivational leader for the team, delivered a stellar performance on the mound. She pitched a complete game, striking out eight and allowing no earned runs, demonstrating her prowess under pressure. "When the game got tight there, we just buckled down," said head coach Shad Ford, emphasizing the team's defensive strength throughout the season.

The Titans exhibited their determination despite a challenging start. After Conotton Valley's ace, Maddison Kelley, intentionally walked to set up an early run, Notre Dame responded with focus and teamwork. "We've been working hard all season," Rush noted, reflecting the team's commitment to reaching the regional finals. Senior catcher Kate Entler echoed this sentiment, highlighting the deep bonds formed over the years among the players.

As the game progressed, Conotton Valley managed to narrow the gap with an RBI single by Ava Williams but struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. Rush maintained control, forcing infield outs and limiting the Rockets' chances. "It's a privilege to be out here today competing for a regional final," Rush stated, underscoring the team's collective spirit and readiness as they advance to the state stage.
