Panthers' Jonathon Brooks Discusses Recovery and Competitive Spirit

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jonathon Brooks, the backup running back for the Carolina Panthers, remains unwavering in his competitive spirit. During a press conference on Tuesday following the team's offseason training activities (OTAs), Brooks expressed confidence and humor, emphasizing his readiness to contribute.

When asked about his height compared to starting running back Chuba Hubbard, who stands at 6-foot-1, Brooks confidently asserted, "Me," when it came to who had the greater reach. He added with a playful grin, "No, he wouldn't," referring to Hubbard's likely disagreement over the matter.

In terms of speed, Brooks acknowledged that he hasn't undergone formal testing, but he confidently stated, "it's faster than Chuba, for sure." This friendly rivalry in the running back room has garnered positive attention from Panthers coach Dave Canales, who values the competitive dynamic that Brooks and Hubbard bring to the team.

Brooks, who is working his way back from consecutive knee injuries, made his return to practice last month for the first time since 2024. Anticipated to be Hubbard's primary backup, he insists that he isn't favoring his knee. "Just getting back to that, obviously, it takes some time to get used to, but it's been good so far," he remarked, reflecting on his journey.

With a focus on building momentum and consistency, Brooks is determined to make the most of his opportunities. "I'm really focused on stacking good days," he concluded, looking ahead to the season.

Brooks' recovery comes at a crucial time for the Panthers, as they aim for a successful campaign in the upcoming NFL season.
