Shaquille O'Neal Stands Up for Angel Reese and Lauren Betts Against Critics

Shaquille O'Neal has stepped up to defend Angel Reese and Lauren Betts amid ongoing criticism directed at the two rising stars. During a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, the basketball legend expressed his frustration over the negative comments aimed at the athletes, saying, "I wish I could punch some of these guys in their face that just pick on my Angel and pick on my Lauren [Betts], but I have to be professional."

Angel Reese has been in the spotlight since her days in college, especially following her involvement in a much-discussed rivalry with Caitlin Clark during LSU's national championship journey. Meanwhile, Lauren Betts, the fourth overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, has faced backlash for being selected ahead of other talented players, which has sparked debate among fans.

O'Neal explained his motivation for defending the players, stating, “Because enough is enough.” He criticized the online behavior that turns trending topics into opportunities for gaining followers, labeling it as “a lot of nonsense” and “a lot of bullying.”

Having mentored Reese throughout her collegiate career, O'Neal has also helped launch her AR1 signature sneaker line through Reebok. He has been a strong supporter of her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, which is part of his The Big Podcast Network. Reese has made significant strides in her career, including being the first athlete to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and gracing the cover of Vogue.

O'Neal made it clear that he is available to assist both Reese and Betts whenever needed, saying, “They have my number. They know if they need me, they can call me.” As for their upcoming games, Betts will take on the Indiana Fever on June 8, while Reese will face her former team, the Chicago Sky, on June 9.
