UCF's NCAA Tournament Journey Concludes with Defeat to Auburn

The UCF Knights' season came to an abrupt end as they fell to the Auburn Tigers in the NCAA Regional, suffering a 9-3 loss on Sunday night. Auburn showcased their power at the plate, hitting six home runs, including two from catcher Chase Fralick, to dominate the match.

This final game capped off a tumultuous few days in the Auburn Regional, where inclement weather caused significant delays. UCF's initial game against N.C. State was postponed multiple times before finally resuming Saturday morning. Unfortunately, the start of Sunday’s game was also delayed by three hours due to weather conditions.

When play finally commenced, UCF's DeAmez Ross quickly made an impact, hitting a solo home run off Auburn pitcher Alex Petrovic (10-2) to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. This marked Ross's fourth home run of the season and contributed to UCF's overall total of six homers during the regionals.

Starting pitcher Roman Kimball (1-2) faced a brief interruption just as he began his outing due to lightning, but he quickly got back on track, retiring the next two batters. UCF continued to push offensively, loading the bases in the second inning, which allowed Ross to drive in another run, extending their lead to 2-0.

Auburn, however, responded decisively. After tying the game in the third inning with solo shots from Mason McCraine and Fralick, they took control with a home run from Ethin Bingaman in the fourth. Kimball was replaced by reliever Anthony Lariz after the bases were loaded, and although Lariz managed to escape the inning, Auburn added to their tally, ultimately pulling away.

UCF's Zak Skinner did hit a 430-foot homer in the sixth, narrowing the gap to 4-3, but the Tigers swiftly retaliated, hitting two more homers in the same inning. With Fralick adding his second of the night later on, Auburn sealed their victory with two additional runs in the eighth. As a result, Auburn (40-20) will advance to face Milwaukee in the regional final on Monday.

This loss concludes a challenging season for UCF, finishing with a record of 32-23.
