Wayne Boys Track Team Triumphs at D-I Super Regional Meet

On May 30, the Wayne boys track team showcased their athletic prowess by securing the top spot in the Division I, Region 4 super regional meet held at Heidkamp Stadium, amassing a total of 89 points. Key'Shawn Garrett was a standout performer, clocking impressive times of 10.3 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 20.98 seconds in the 200-meter event, winning both races for the Warriors.

In addition to his individual victories, Garrett played a crucial role in the success of Wayne's relay teams, which also claimed first place. The Warriors finished the 400-meter relay in 41.57 seconds and the 800-meter relay in 1:27.32, further solidifying their dominance in the competition.

Beavercreek's Jackson Davis also had an outstanding meet, winning the 800-meter race with a time of 1:53.39 and the 1,600-meter race in 4:19.93. He contributed to Beavercreek's second-place finish with a win in the 3,200-meter relay, completing the race in 7:49.27. The Beavercreek girls team also excelled, placing second overall, highlighted by Maya Cook's victory in the 200-meter (24.77) and Anais Early's win in the long jump (18-01).

Other notable performances included Lamar Bonner of Northmont, who won the high jump with a height of 6-05, and the Springfield girls 400-meter relay team, consisting of Annaleah Arnold, Elise Brown, Aryanna Floyd, and Kennedi Jones, who finished first with a time of 48.23 seconds.

At the Division I, Region 3 super regional in Mason, both the Centerville boys and girls teams delivered strong performances. Simon Young Linck led the boys team with a winning time of 47.75 in the 400-meter race, while Gabe Gillem triumphed in the long jump at 22-07 and Ethan Ireland secured victory in the pole vault at 14-00. The Elks girls team placed second overall, highlighted by a winning time of 1:40.41 in the 4x200-meter relay.

As the state tournament approaches, it is set to take place next week at Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, with different divisions competing on various dates from June 4 to June 7.
