Bradley Wright-Phillips Reunites with Arsenal Icon Ian Wright After 18-Month Separation
MLS star Bradley Wright-Phillips had an emotional reunion with his father, Arsenal legend Ian Wright, after being apart for a year and a half. Known for his impressive scoring record with the New York Red Bulls, where he netted 126 goals over 240 matches, Bradley's reunion with his father came during a work trip related to the World Cup coverage in Qatar.
The father-son duo crossed paths while both were engaged in broadcasting duties, with Ian part of the main coverage team for the match between Qatar and Switzerland, while Bradley worked from a secondary area. Their heartfelt meeting was filled with emotion, as Ian expressed his affection by saying, “Look at you son, I love you bro.” Bradley responded, “I haven’t seen you in a year and a half and this is where we meet, it’s not bad.”
Ian’s pride for his son's accomplishments was evident, as he remarked, “I’m so pleased for him, I’m so pleased to be here. It’s just brilliant to see him after everything that happened to him in England and how he managed to get here. For him to get to where he’s got to, the pride, even just to hear him speak so wonderfully there.”
Bradley Wright-Phillips has had a remarkable career, especially after facing challenges in England due to misconceptions about his character. He has since established himself as one of the top players in Major League Soccer. Reflecting on his journey in an interview with the MLS website in 2020, he noted, “I never doubted myself. It was just frustrating, people lost faith in me.”
