Tracy McGrady gives thoughts on the 2001 finals run for Sixers

Throughout the 2025-26 season, the Philadelphia 76ers found different ways to honor the 25-year anniversary of their 2001 team that made the finals. Led by MVP Allen Iverson, the Sixers navigated their way through the postseason, led the Los Angeles Lakers 1-0 in the finals, but then came up short to Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, and Co.

The notion around that team is that Iverson led a group of no-namers and had a weak supporting cast as he carried them to the finals. However, when one really looks at the roster, Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady isn't trying to hear any of that.

McGrady points out the fact that Dikembe Mutombo was a Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Star, while guys like Tyrone Hill, Jumaine Jones, Aaron McKie, Eric Snow, and others who played big roles on those teams.

This doesn't take away from Iverson's greatness during that run, but McGrady brings up good points. That Sixers roster wasn't nearly as bad as everybody tries to make it out to be. The Sixers were able to get the most out of everybody and it led to a phenomenal run that will always be remembered and honored by the franchise.
